Discover the best of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives

Jacada Travel creates bespoke luxury trips to the Indian Subcontinent. Our team of Travel Designers will create the perfect itinerary for an epic trip through India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka or the Maldives.

India is a vast country and a real melting pot of cultures. The northern state of Rajasthan is littered with majestic palaces and imposing forts. It is also home to some of the country’s most vibrant cities as well as remote luxury properties nestled in the mountains or between the dusty dunes of the Thar Desert. Head south to Kerala and discover another side to this fascinating country, one of peaceful backwaters, tea plantations and quaint colonial cities. In between all of this are thriving metropolises, spiritual retreats, the beautiful Himalayas and national parks filled with tigers and leopards. With such a vast and varied landscape and culture, India has something for everyone and promises an absolutely unforgettable trip.

Sri Lanka distills much of India’s diversity into an island of more manageable size, with fine beaches, ancient temples, rolling tea plantations and national parks home to leopards and elephant.

Then there’s Bhutan, ‘Land of the Dragons’. Explore its intricate dzongs, glacial peaks, hilltop villages and vibrant culture in this country which pioneered the concept of  Gross National Happiness. Everywhere you go you will be rewarded with stunning views and the chance to involve yourself in a culture that is fiercely protected.

For those looking for the ultimate island getaway, the Maldives are hard to beat with crystal clear waters, powder soft white sand, incredible marine life and luxury hotels and villas.

There are many incredible places to stay in the Indian Subcontinent. Here are some of our favourites, handpicked by our travel designers:

Tea Country

Ceylon Tea Trails
The Ceylon Tea Trails resort is the ideal place from which to explore this breathtaking part of Sri Lanka. Dating back to colonial times, five spacious bungalows feature antique furniture and exemplary, personalised service. With between four and six rooms, they are perfect for families and small groups. All of the 26 rooms and suites, which are named after tea planters who lived there, are elegantly outfitted in natural colours and materials, and make for a tranquil escape. Spend time out on the veranda in the fresh mountain air enjoying the views of Castlereagh Lake, the Bogawantalawa Valley and Dunkeld Estate; or curl up with a book in front of a fire. Take long, leisurely walks through the tea plantations learning all about the ancient process of making tea, enjoy a tempting spread of sweet treats on the lawns or have a light lunch at the pool side. Sri Lankan-inspired meals at Ceylon Tea Trails feature the freshest of seasonal produce with home grown vegetables, herbs and teas from the estate. Rates at Tea Trails are fully inclusive of meals and drinks. Make the most of the calming surroundings and start the day with an aromatic bath, or treat yourself to a selection of therapeutic spa treatments in your room. Get a healthy dose of fresh air and explore some of the walking and biking routes through the mountains, or enjoy a game of tennis or croquet.

Paro

Amankora Paro
Situated in Balakha Village, the Amankora Paro contrasts rustic elements with contemporary design. Its pleasing features include natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs, wood-panelled interiors and spectacular views of blue pine forests, the 17th-century Drukyel Dzong and Mount Jhomolhari. This impressive lodge features 24 suites, each with a combined lounge and bedroom and traditional wood-burning stove. Centred by a large flagstone courtyard, a lime-washed stone pavilion houses the living and dining room facilities with floor-to-ceiling windows, a library and an outdoor terrace overlooking a small stream. A spa set on two levels features a yoga studio with glass walls and treatment rooms with outdoor baths.

Maldives

LUX* South Ari Atoll
As the only resort on the island of Dhidhoofinolhu, LUX* South Ari Atoll offers exclusivity and unspoiled island living at its best. The 193 thatched-roof pavilions and water suspended villas seamlessly blend contemporary style with modern convenience. Each room has been designed with understated sophistication, with a private terrace, outdoor shower and sweeping views across the idyllic ocean. There are a variety of dining options at this laid-back retreat with restaurants on the sand, floating on the water or meals served privately in your villa. Guests can make the most of the luxurious facilities from the two swimming pools with poolside bars, to the tennis courts, fully equipped gym and the heavenly on-site spa. With a focus on entertainment, there are endless activities to take part in from snorkelling, diving, beach yoga, volleyball, hoover boarding, cycling and regular pop-up cinema screenings and musical performances.

Everest

Yeti Mountain Home Namche
See Everest in complete comfort with a stay at the homely Yeti Mountain Home. Wrapped in breath-taking views of Kongde Ri Mountain, with panoramic vistas of Everest behind the property, this is an exceedingly scenic retreat on the upper slopes of the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. As one of the best hotels in the area, you can look forward to excellent facilities here. Creature comforts such as cosy rooms, delicious, organic meals and well-earned massages ensure you’ll acclimatise and rest in a relaxed setting. The 20 rooms feature natural wood finishings and a combination of traditional Khumbu and modern style. When you’re not unwinding from your Himalayan trek, head to Khunde and Khumjung to visit the Hillary Hospital and Hillary School for a cultural insight into the local area.

Rural Rajasthan

Six Senses Fort Barwara
One of Rajasthan’s most glorious architectural wonders is the meticulously restored 14th-century Fort Barwara. What once belonged to a Rajasthani Royal Family has been transformed into a Six Senses sanctuary of well-being. Six Senses Fort Barwara is located a three-hour drive from Jaipur and a 30-minute drive from Ranthambore National Park, where you can go in search of the region’s wild tigers. It houses 48 luxury suites where the essence of royalty has been kept intact. The East Wing overlooks the countryside and the West Wing offers views to Barwara village and beyond. Each accommodation is designed in contemporary Rajasthani style, reinterpreting the fort’s rich history while subtly incorporating state-of-the-art technology. Here, dining is a royal affair. The on-site restaurants combine the best of regional Rajasthani and pan-Indian cuisine with a sprinkling of international influences while embracing the Eat With Six Senses philosophy of local, fresh and seasonal produce. Where possible, they harvest ingredients from the resort’s very own organic gardens and carefully selected farmers from the villages and townships nearby. As the sun begins to set over the Chauth ka Barwara Mandir Temple, come and find the wine sommelier to tour their vintages, or start your evening as you mean to go on with a pre-dinner cocktail at The Viewing Gallery. There is also an immense focus on personalised wellness. The resort is home to a 30,000-square-foot (2,800-square-meter) spa and fitness centre where an extensive menu of Ayurvedic treatments awaits. You can even blend your own skincare products at their Alchemy Bar. Six Senses Barwara is a royal base for exploring Rajasthan’s regional delights. Activities can be customized based on your preferences, whether it’s enjoying a sunset drive through the Rajasthani countryside or discovering the wildlife of nearby Ranthambore National Park. With visits to the temple and guided heritage walks, you will find endless possibilities to immerse in local history and culture.
